Sept 10, 2019 -- MobyMax has been honored with a 2019 Academics’ Choice Smart Media Award, a prestigious acknowledgment of quality bestowed upon “the best thinking-based” educational products in the industry. The independent Academics’ Choice Awards program and its seal of excellence are recognized worldwide by consumers and educational institutions in search of exceptional learning tools that build the mind and enable students to fully develop higher-order thinking skills.
MobyMax won in the Website, Game, and Software categories after being determined by a panel of parents, educators, scientists, and students to have “robust educational value” while strengthening cognitive skills. Plus, observed one judge, “the platform works well for both exceptionally gifted and remedial students, which is an outstanding technological achievement.”
All products under consideration were evaluated based on the degree to which they successfully developed higher-order thinking skills (HOTS), including students’ imagination and creative and critical thinking, along with general thinking skills such as logic and visual perceptual skills. Judges also considered whether the product addresses standards like the Common Core and the State Dept. of Education Content Standards. In addition, products were analyzed on how they helped build character by encouraging responsibility, honesty, caring, fairness, cooperation, and respect. Engagement was also a primary factor in determining awardees, as judges examined the degree to which products captured a student’s attention while delivering the intended learning experience.“As much as we strive to ensure that students who use MobyMax learn twice as fast, we have also worked hard to embed attributes like higher-order thinking skills and engagement into every product we’ve developed,” said company co-founder Glynn Willett. “We’re thrilled to be recognized for our success in achieving these goals.”
“Mobymax is an all-encompassing adaptive platform that takes child centered learning to the next level,” noted one judge. “This program really gives teachers the chance to be completely hands off and simply walk around and help kids develop skills in particular subjects. The ability to track progress and adapt to student levels was amazing.”
“Aside from the tracking and adaptive technology, I think the high point is for the child to have choices in their education,” remarked another judge. With MobyMax, “it is all there for them to progress on their own. Mobymax would be a great station for an elementary classroom, or a wonderful edition to a homeschool curriculum.”
The Academics' Choice Advisory Board consists of industry experts and includes graduates from Princeton, Harvard, George Washington University, and other distinguished educational institutions. Entries are judged by category (such as mobile app, toy, book, website, magazine), subject area, and grade level, and are evaluated based on standardized criteria rooted in constructivist learning theory.
