Company Awards Include Best Multi-Level/Multi-Subject Website, Best Special Education Website, and Best Online K-8 Assessment Tool
May 2, 2019 - MobyMax, the most acclaimed differentiated learning solution in the U.S., has received a record 25 Best Educational Software Awards (BESSIEs) from ComputED Gazette.
The Awards recognize cutting-edge and content-rich programs and websites (including apps for iOS and Android) that provide parents and teachers with the technology they need to foster educational excellence. Selection criteria include academic content, technical merit, subject approach, and management systems.
MobyMax co-founder Glynn Willett was particularly gratified that the company’s innovations to improve special education were recognized in the Teacher Tools category.
“Every student has learning gaps,” he notes. “Our research has shown that the single most effective way to improve student outcomes is to find and fix missing skills. That’s been particularly true in special education classrooms, where students need more individualized instruction and where teachers often need the most help.”
Says Caitlin Corlett, a seventh grade special education teacher at The Lowell School in Whitestone, NY, “If you teach Special Education, you probably have students come to your class in the fall with a lack of confidence. They are very unsure of their skills. The best thing you can do for them is help them find those “a ha!” moments, where everything clicks in place, and they understand a concept in their own way. I will use any tool at my disposal to make those “a ha!” moments happen, and that’s what MobyMax does.”
“MobyMax is rare in its ability to meet the educational needs of both gifted and remedial students,” explains Willett. “That’s because MobyMax’s adaptive curriculum enables teachers to create individualized education plans for students at any level. Gifted students can progress as quickly as they like, while remedial students get the extra instruction that will make the difference for them.”
MobyMax was one of only two companies this year whose product won BESSIEs in multiple categories. As they evaluated MobyMax, reviewers noted how Moby Suite’s “stimulating, interactive” lessons for K-8 students aligned with the Common Core as well as State standards. The rewards students earn as they complete lessons, such as badges, game time, and contest points, guarantee that “children will love the colorful and easy-to-use interface accompanied by audio guidance,” as reviewers put it.
In addition to the Special Education award, Moby won BESSIE Awards from ComputED Gazette in the following categories:
